Why not apply to be a Resident¹ Member on the new Governance & Regulation Group?
As an industry leader committed to governance and regulation, Peverel Property Management (PPM), of which Consort Property Management Limited is a part, has appointed Peter Hinchliffe, the former lead ombudsman of the Financial Ombudsman Service, as joint independent chairman of the group. The G&R group provides a forum to find ways of improving service across all of PPM businesses, including Consort Property Management
Guided by Peter Hinchliffe and PPM’s head of compliance Gerry Fox, the other joint chairman, the panel will have the power to summon senior figures within PPM to help draw up improved processes within the company. Any resident who is a property owner can apply to join, but as it is likely to be privileged to financial information, the group is not intending to take anyone on who has a professional interest in the property management industry.
The Group will tackle common complaints and look into broad issues flagged by residents. Individual customer queries will still be handled by property managers and customer service teams, leaving this group to tackle potentially broader issues. They may also be asked to review or investigate actions or allegations made against a PPM company.
The outcomes of the quarterly meetings will be published online and the group will also release an annual report.
PPM group MD Lee Middleburgh will also sit on the group and act as a conduit between it and PPM.
Peter Hinchliffe is currently a tribunal judge, a member at both the Determinations Panel at the Pensions Regulator and the Equitable Life Independent Review Panel at HM Treasury. He is also Chair of the Adjudication Panel of the Council for Licensed Conveyancers.
Lee Middleburgh has said: "The group’s members will be people with strong views who aren’t afraid to speak their mind, and we hope this will set the tone for its work. We are looking forward to seeing really positive recommendations that will ensure we offer our customers the best possible service."
As well as Peter’s knowledge and skills, the group will also benefit from Gerry’s 40 years’ experience in the industry. He has chaired committees and working parties such as the RICS Management Code Working Party and Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Working Party, and was the founder Chairman of the Association of Residential Managing Agents (ARMA).
It is envisaged that the Group will meet four times a year in Central London in the evening. Travelling and hotel expenses would be met.
Peter Hinchliffe and Gerry Fox will finalise the agenda and control the topics to be discussed which will include items suggested by members and approved by the joint chairmen. There is likely to be limited input required outside of the meeting dates.
